Rio Olympics Blog — Day Nineteen: Taking it easy

Day 11 of the Olympics brought a pretty light day for me.

As I mentioned in Tuesday’s blog, I started the day off by covering the 3m springboard semifinal in the morning. Fortunately, Michael Hixon easily qualified for the night’s final round with five solid dives. That meant I just had to write a 200-word or so recap for the Daily Hampshire Gazette, which felt pretty nice. You can the read the recap here.

The rest of the day was pretty chill. I watched as the Brazilian women’s soccer team lost to Sweden on penalties. I can’t stand Hope Solo’s comments on Sweden, but I will say that I hate that style of play. It’s one thing to park the bus after scoring a goal; it’s another to do it for 120 minutes and hope things go your way in penalties.

But the rest of the day was spent sitting at a table basically doing nothing.

Wednesday will be a bit more active, hopefully. I don’t have a website shift, but I will be covering the men’s steeplechase competition in the morning. Then I might take in an event or two or to simply rest and relax.
