A Website Update for 2021

•

Happy new year and welcome to 2021!

I know that this new year is a lot different than even last year’s. There is a lot of worry, trepidation and concern about what 2021 brings. And I know that just flipping the calendar or popping the champagne isn’t going to take those worries away.

But at the same time, it’s a chance for a new beginning. Yes, it’s all arbitrary, but no time like the present to try and make changes and try to start anew. Hope springs eternal and all of that.

Website Redesign

Speaking of starting anew, you’re probably noticing the new design to this website. It’s a pretty drastic change from what it looked like before if you frequented the blog much.

For starters, I’ve been on a bit of a hook with dark mode. If an app or a website has dark mode, I will use it without hesitation. Even though Facebook’s redesign is awful, the one bright spot is the addition of dark mode.

So that was one of the primary drivers behind the redesign. Also, I’ve learned a lot about the best practices with CSS, PHP, HTML and the like and wanted to start anew to build the theme up with those in mind. And I wanted to make sure the Schema markup and SEO code foundation was strong. Plus, page speed was another key, especially as Google starts to use that as a significant ranking factor.

In addition, I wanted to organize things better for you, the reader. If you head over to the main blog page, you’ll see that these learning playlists are in a prominent position. These are groups of posts that you can read through and learn more about how to create a website, digital marketing, SEO and more. The goal is that you leave filled with knowledge that you can use for your website.

Blog Posts

But the changes aren’t all just cosmetic. I’m hoping to use this blog to help you learn more about websites, digital marketing, WordPress and other website-related topics. My hope is that with each blog post you’re able to come away with actionable items you can take on your website.

To that end, while I continue to do keyword research, as you should do if you’re focused on content marketing, if you have anything that you want to learn more about, be sure to leave suggestions down in the comments section below.

YouTube Channel and Videos

Also, as we start 2021, I’m refocusing on the YouTube channel. You can find out more specifically about what you can expect there in the video below. But like the blog, I’m hoping to be able to create content that can help you improve your website and digital marketing.

Resources and Newsletter

Next, I invite you to check out the resources page. Here you’ll find infographics and guides you can download and use for your website and digital marketing efforts.

And finally be sure to sign up for the Small Business Websites Newsletter. This monthly newsletter will dive deeper into an aspect of a website, ecommerce, digital marketing and more each week, give you actionable items you can do that month and links off to other resources that can help you understand the topic better. And it’s all free!

This is all for you

All of this is to say that I want this part of the website to be about and for you. This is your space to learn about websites and to ask any questions that you might have. So I hope you take full advantage of the free resources here to find ways to improve your website and grow your business online. And if there’s anything you want me to talk about more, please let me know.

If you’re ready to take the next step right now in 2021, you have a number of options. First, if you’re wanting to build a new website on a budget, I can help you create a professional website and get you online with a site within that budget. If you want something more custom, let’s work together to create the website of your dreams. Finally, if you have a WordPress website but can’t stand taking care of the technical side of your website, I can handle that for you and then some.

But happy 2021. May it be better for all of us than the last 12 months.
