Creating a Download Product in Easy Digital Downloads

Creating a product or download in Easy Digital Downloads is really easy, and it’s very similar to creating a new post or page.

The title area is where you can set the name for the download. And the content area will basically be the content for the single download page. Depending on the theme you’re using, you might need to add in a download or add to cart button so that people can add the download to their cart.

Beneath the main post editor is where you can set the price for the download. You can also choose to make it have variable pricing. For example, maybe there are variations of the download that might have different prices. This is where you can set those prices. You can also choose to allow customers to select multiple different variations of the download.

Next is the area where you can upload the files for the download product. It can be a default download or it could be a bundle of other downloads you already have on your website. If it’s a bundle, you’ll need to select the downloads that will be included in the bundle.

If it’s a default download, you can upload your file or files in the field below. If you have the variable download option selected, you can choose which variation the file goes with.

Finally you can add in any download instructions in the last field.

On the right side, you can set the category and tags for the download and upload a featured image for the download. You can also add in a short excerpt like you can for a post.

Beneath that section you can define the limit for number of downloads for a single customer or leave it blank for unlimited downloads. You can also set the refund period for the product, hide or show the purchase button on the single download page and define the behavior of the purchase button – either the traditional “Add to Cart” or a “Buy Now” button to go right to the checkout page.

Finally, there’s an area where you can copy the purchase button shortcode for the download to use elsewhere on the site.

Once you’re cool with how your download is set up, it’s time to hit publish to make your first download live!
