So after a month or so of hard work getting the Nuovo theme up to where it is today, this past week has much needed break away from all of the coding and stress that comes with building a WordPress theme. Well, it hasn’t been too much of a break. I’ve been helping out at church every day this week, but it has gotten me a way from the computer, something I sorely needed to do. And in the meantime, I’ve been able to read some computer books I’ve been meaning to read.
Anyway, since there isn’t to recap from this week, here’s a bit of what’s to come this coming week.
So after the release of the release candidate, which you can get here, as well as the theme demo, which you can view here, the obvious goal now is to get it ready to submit to the WordPress theme directory and hopefully get into the directory on the first shot. The first thing to do is to make the responsive versions look better on devices other than the iPhone and iPad. Currently, the mobile and tablet versions look really good in the iPhone portrait mode and on the iPad. So that will obviously will have to change.
Also, I’ll have to enqueue all over the JavaScript files to match the WordPress style. I’ll have to also add support for the editor styles so users can see a bit how the post will look in the theme. There’s also a theme option to easily upload a favicon (the logo by the title of the site in the browser) that needs to be added and I might also edit the style of the tags in the tag cloud widget, but that might come in a theme update later on down the road.
Hopefully, after all of this, the theme will be ready to be easily accepted in to the WordPress theme directory. That still seems so far away, but I’m a lot closer to that than I was when I restarted working on the theme roughly a month ago. I hope this is a smooth process.
