Hey there and welcome back!

So at this point you know you need a new website, you’ve got a pretty good plan for it and you know that you want to have someone else build the website for you.

But do you know where to find that perfect web agency or developer to create this awesome website for you?

The good news is that there are a lot of places to go to find that agency or developer to create the perfect site. So today let’s take a look at some of the places where you can find the perfect someone.

Now let’s get started.

Referrals

So the first route that you should go down is to get referrals from someone who has recently created a new website for their business. Ask your neighbors around your business and your home to see if they would have someone that they recommend. If you’re part of a group, ask around to see who they would recommend. Or you can even put out a call on social media to get recommendations about a great web agency or developer to work with.

You’re going to get honest answers about how the company works and whether or not they would work with them again. And if you have multiple people recommending the same agency or developer, well you might have the answer right there.

So ask around and see who people recommend. It can sometimes make the decision super easy for you.

Directories

Another good option if the referrals fail you is to just look around at different directories online for web agencies or developers.

A good place to start on this front is Alignable. It’s part directory, part social media website, and it can be a good place to connect with web agencies and developers, as well as other businesses. Plus, you can see who recommends them and reviews about their services.

Also, Yelp, UpCity and BrightLocal are good places to start looking for agencies or developers in your area.

Outside of that might you might just want to Google business directories in your area or just for web developer, web agency directories. I know that if you’re interested in WordPress, World of WordPress has a directory for WordPress agencies and developers that might help you get started.

These directories will hopefully allow you to see reviews of their services and to start to figure out who is going to help you the best.

Google

And then there’s always the tried and true Google search for a web developer or web agency.

I would recommend that you use a “near me” search in this to find people who are local to your area. I’ve found it to be much easier personally working with clients who are local in my area as opposed to across the country. So I think you’ll have a much better experience from the client perspective as well.

And that also will narrow the list that you have to choose from, which is great considering how many web developers there are these days.

Plus, searching through Google Maps allows you to pull up their information and, probably more importantly, reviews people have given them for their work in the past. That info can be very valuable.

Don’t underestimate the power Googling can have on finding a web agency or developer to build your new website.

Upwork/Fiverr

Finally we have freelancer websites like Fiverr and Upwork.

These really should be your last resort if nothing else works. While you can find what you need, it’s a crapshoot about whether or not you’re going to find someone who’s going to make life easy for you or if you’re just going to end up wasting money and having headaches.

You really need to be doing your research and to be asking a lot of questions in your job posting to weed out the people that are just going to be headaches for you and the people that are actually going to help you.

If you do decide to go down this route, make sure that you price your project correctly. Don’t post it for just a hundred or even a couple of hundred dollars. That way you can weed out people who are just looking for a free couple of bucks and find the more professional developers.

But again, this should be your last resort.
