To say things have been a bit slow in trying to clean up and fix up the Nuovo theme might be a bit of an understatement. While I finally got rid of the vast majority of HTML markup on the homepage, doing that for the rest of the templates has been much more slow going. The biggest reason is that I’ve just been busy with other things–including getting ready to head back to Austin and the web design job I picked up a couple of weeks ago.
But while it’s been slow going with Nuovo, the pre-production work on the new Giornalismo theme has been fairly steady so far. What I’ve been doing for the most part so far with that is first designing each of the template by hand on paper and then using GIMP to design the templates on the computer. From that, I’m writing down in a notebook in Evernote the specs for photos and fonts. The hope is that it makes it much easier to create the actual theme.
Of course, there’s still a long way to go with even the design. I’m roughly through halfway of the desktop templates and still have to do tablet and mobile design. It’s going to be a process, but to make it a theme people will actually download and use, it’s going to have to take some time. So with that, there’s no real rush.
But hopefully I’ll get really moving on finishing the Nuovo theme sometime at least before the end of September.
