Playing the waiting game

So this past week has been a pretty good week with the WordPress theme development. Since this time last week, I’ve submitted Giornalismo for the theme review to get into the WordPress Theme Directory as well as the Nuovo 2.0 update. That has gotten a lot off of my plate development-wise, but now comes the not-so-fun part: waiting.

Moving right along with Nuovo

To say that the work with the rebuild of Nuovo has been quick might be an understatement.

This time last week I was only a part way through the different templates. Now, seven days later, I’ve finished all of the template files and have put it up on the development site. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite come out initially as I had hope, though that’s par for the course.

Finally in the WordPress theme directory

Ten months after submitting it to the WordPress Theme Directory, my number one goal with Nuovo finally got checked off.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Nuovo was finally accepted into the WordPress Theme Directory and is available for anyone to download and use.

Continuing the Giornalismo rebuild

So there’s not too much of an update with the themes this week. I’ve continued to re-code everything in the Giornalismo theme. Over the weekend I knocked out the header template, staying close to how things are to be done in HTML5 and what not.

Supporting the WordPress customizer decision

So last week the WordPress Theme Review Team made the decision that all themes hosted in the WordPress Theme Directory will have to use the Customizer to display theme options.

The decision was expectedly met by resistance from many developers who had their own way of displaying theme options, which makes sense given how much those folks have probably worked on those templates. As for myself, I wasn’t exactly pleased that I had to redo an entire template, but was going to give it a chance.

And now, after completely making the switch to the Customizer, I have to say that I like the move.

An unforseen diversion

So everything has been moving at a snail’s pace for Giornalismo, primarily due to my busy schedule, but Thursday things came to an interesting halt.

The folks who run and maintain WordPress and the WordPress directory made it official that all themes will have the use the WordPress Customizer instead of creating separate theme options page.

Well shoot, right after I had finally finished learning how to make a really good theme options page, I can no longer use what I learned. Rats.

Still changes to be made to Nuovo

Another two weeks have gone by and still Nuovo isn’t into the WordPress Theme Directory yet. I believe almost all of the necessary changes have been made and I’m just waiting for the reviewer to reply with either the okay or more things that need to be changed.

Getting closer to the end for Nuovo

So it’s been a while since I gave an update for Nuovo, but here we go.

Since the last update, the theme has gotten even closer to being included in the WordPress theme directory. It’s to the point that I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel for the theme, which is nice since I’m almost ready to get started on rewriting Giornalismo any day now.

Almost done with the latest round of edits

So it’s been a while since I’ve gotten around to writing an update for how the Nuovo theme edits are going, so here we go.

As things stand now, things are actually moving along well. The edits are happening slower than I would like, but it’s steadily getting down, which is an accomplishment given my schedule this semester.

Another review, another set of changes needed

So once again with Nuovo there is good news and there is bad news.

The good news is that Nuovo underwent another review by one of the WordPress Theme reviewers last week and the reviewer did a very good and thorough job in review my mistakes. The bad news is that those mistakes, though not huge, are a bit numerous and tedious to fix.

Getting to the fun part of coding

So the long battle with JavaScript has finally ended after a few weeks.

Road block for Nuovo

So Nuovo was almost home free. After getting initial approval by the first reviewer, the thought was that the second and final round would be quick and painless and that it would be put up on the WordPress Theme directory relatively soon.

Except that the second review brought up a few more issues that have to be fixed before it can be accepted into the theme directory.
